HCWT Completes a Nortel VoIP BCM and Nortel data deployment for the North Jeffco Parks and Recreation District
March 24th , 2006
ARVADA – Hi Country Wire and Telephone announced today that it has completed a Nortel VoIP communications and networking solution for the North Jeffco Parks and Recreation District. The solution will ultimately save this district upwards of $40,000 per year in communications and network expenses as it has enabled the district the ability to move beyond the legacy Centrex Plus service it has depended on for inbound and outbound phone service and station to station calls between its primary locations. The new Nortel BCM communications solution allows for VoIP voice traffic between four Nortel BCM50 and one Nortel BCM400 communication servers, retains the districts centralized voice mail configuration, and now provides all district staff on the network to get inbound caller-ID.
Figure 1 (below) shows how the new Nortel VoIP solution has been implemented. At the Apex Center a new Nortel BCM400 and 1750 ethernet router were installed. The BCM400 is connected to two new Qwest PRI T1 voice circuits and acts as a conduit for incoming and outgoing calls. Any calls destined for the North Jeffco Indian Tree Golf Course, Fitnesss Center, Senior Center, or Garrison Street center are converted to internet protocol (VoIP), sent to the remote sites Nortel 1100 ethernet router, and delivered to its destination from the Nortel BCM 50 phone system. "This solution would not have been financialy viable if we hadn't implemented VoIP," states project manager Jim Whitfield.

Don Tuchband, North Jeffco Information Technology Manager states, "Hi Country has done a good job of designing this solution, showing us how it can work financially, and implementing it. Most of our staff just notice the new caller-ID capability but it's truly remarkable to see the voice over IP component take advantage of our existing data T1 network. The voice quality is very good and indistinguishable from a traditional voice call. "
