Arvada Hockey Positive Coaching Job Description
Arvada Hockey Association

The Arvada Hockey Association is a force for positive change for the direct benefit of the players and families that invest their time and energy to the Association. We are shattering all the sterotypes historically associated with Tier II hockey associations. Here are some examples of how we are distinctive:

We firmly believe in the www.postivecoach.org principles toward the best development possible of our youth players. You will not hear of our coaches using foul or abusive language.

We are a zero-tolerance organization with respect to hazing or bullying by our players both on the ice and in the locker room. Our big hits are reserved for games.

Our primary mission is player development for ALL the players in our association (not just the top 1%). So our youth players are not held to NHL standards. You will not see our coaches barking at players for causing an occasional offside's or errant pass. However, we do expect our players to give 100% effort at all games and training sessions.

Our association takes goalie development very seriously and we staff a goalie coach and session for all age groups.

Each player is given feedback at least once per season on their strengths and areas for improvement so that each players understands what they need to work on to take their game to the next level. The players assessments are reviewed by the coaching staff and Director of Coaching.

We avoid parent coaches when possible. If parent coaches are on the bench they are asked to run the door opposite their child-player so as to avoid any conflict of interest detrimental to team unity and player development.

Board member and coaches players are treated equally with all players on their team. All players are expected to attend training sessions, must earn their position on the team, and are not given special treatment.

We are pushing for more comprehensive and thorough training and certification standards for our coaches so that they can best develop our youth players. The campaign both for improvement within and with the state governing body is championed by our Director of Coaching.

We strongly support and encourage inclusive behavior amongst our youth players and parents.

We strongly solicit input, feedback, and dialogue with our members. We take grievances and complaints very seriously and constantly review them so we can continue to improve and achieve excellence as a first-class organization.

To the degree that is possible we support multiple sport athletes and try to work with other local associations as much as possible to reduce scheduling conflicts.
