Career - Bob Whitfield joined Mountain Bell in 1953 as technician that serviced business and residential customers in the Denver Colorado area. In 1962 he managed service delivery for the East Denver Region, one of the fastest growing regions of the city at that time. In 1972 Mountain Bell promoted Bob to the position of Business Service Manager for the Boulder Triangle District (Boulder, Louisville, and Longmont) which included all business, residential, and federal agencies. In 1982 he was promoted to the position of District Manager of Business Services for all of Northern Colorado and also participated on their leadership assessment team.
In 1984 Bob saw the opportunity to start his own company in the wake of the divestiture of the Bell System and took early retirement from the after 30+ years of service. He started Hi Country Wire and Telephone that year with a strong commitment toward service delivery and customer service. Hi Country has continued to grow since with its strong commitment to providing world-class customer service.
Special Achievments - In 1992 the City of Arvada awarded him the Business of the Year award. The City also acknowledged Hi Country as one of the top ten business in 2002. In 2003 Bob was awarded the Lloyd J. King Entrepreneurial Spirit Award (Entrepreneur of the Year) by the Arvada Economic Development Council.
